
Hiking The West Coast Trail – 2/5
So the day has come for us to leave.
We are packed and ready. We needed to get from Kits, Vancouver to Victoria, where the Shuttle Bus will be picking us up the next morning (6am) to take us to the trail head.

“We should do the West Coast Trail [WCT] before the end of the season” said Flo
“OK”, said Scott. And that was all it took. Would I regret this?
This was our third hike of our trip in the Rockies. I would say this was more of a walk than a hike but the Emerald Lake Trail was a one-up for beauty on what Loz and I had done so far.
So the kids were being kids again. Sam and Arno continued their fight from last week up at St Mark’s Summit which I had to break up again. Some things never change eh?
“I can’t wait for some tea! It’s going to be awesome. Scones, crumpets, jam”
I forgot we weren’t in England and so the teahouse may be different to what we would get at home.
My hike in Grotto Canyon (Bow Valley) was the first step into the Canadian Rockies and the first of my trip with Loz, my housemate from back in the UK. This her first trip to north of the boarder and therefore her first experience in the great Canadian wilderness.
Now that things are a little more settled in my travels, myself and my housemates are making a concerted effort to get out of the city at every given possibility. This usually means the weekends.
It probably comes to no surprise that Grouse Grind, on Vancouver’s North Shore, was the first hike I did in Vancouver. It was my first exposure to the Great Outdoors of North America and gave me a taste of what living here could be like.
Friends that had travelled had warned me: “You’ll never want to stop”. I believed them to a degree but how hard must it be to get over it? My experience of it has been slightly different. I’m now looking for work and I’m OK with that. I’m looking forward to re-engaging that part of my brain again. Hanging around in Vancouver, waiting for our next adventure Flo (a friend who’s sofa I am crashing) and I decided to take a look at some fun that was a little closer to home. We set upon the Lions Binkert Trail in North Vancouver. Visible from Downtown, they look like Lion’s Ears.
